Killing it!

here's the epic skate part of 2008! my homie walker just finished it for organika's free promo "zach and walker's concrete jungle" which should be hitting skate shops soon. walker filmed a lot of it last year when we were roomies at ucsd, and most of the clips are on campus which got me really psyched. enjoy! and peep the new transworld for a fat interview with walker too.

and here's a tight little skate montage that some friends made, set to nobody wave "fast asleep", i really like it

merry christmas and happy new year, 2009's gonna be sick!

Guitar Merchant Pics

2nd show! we got invited to play at the former Verity room and didn't really tell too many peeps about it (cos of the $10 entry), but still a good amount of friends were there. we're gonna play a house show in the next few weeks though so more people will come and it'll be free.

Nobody Wave - Columbus Avenue

1. They Went Back Inside (3:26)
2. Very Very Tired (2:45)
3. Another Mountain (3:39)

Here's the other project i was working on besides the singles, it's mostly mellow guitar instrumentals with samples of me and my grandparents when i was around 4 years old. The cover art is a picture i took when i was in japan of these little kids on a field trip to the local shrine in kamakura. they were all looking over the bridge to see the huge fish swimming around in the pond, and i thought that represented the music well (since i don't have any digital photos of my grandparents or me when i was younger)
enjoy

Nobody Wave - Single Series (No.2)

1. Ichiban #1 (1:04)
2. The Only God I've Known (4:19)

Hey hey, back for another week. The main attraction for this single is "The Only God I've Known," which has a western bluesy feel to it, but I thought it would balance well to have a really short punk song in front. "Ichiban #1" was made pretty much on the spot, using the sing gibberish then make words technique. The title is a saying I heard a few times when I was in Japan, which translates to "number one #1", used for dramatic effect

Nobody Wave - Single Series (No.1)

1. Not Yet (2:05)
2. Agree to Lose (3:42)

Here's the first installment of the rousing Single Series, a collection that was called "a delight" by everyone who heard it.
"Not Yet" is a simple punk song with guitar harmonies and "Agree to Lose" has a little of everything: desk drumbeats, a gnarly solo and lots more.
I'm gonna try to have one of these up every Monday, but we'll see what happens

Nobody Wave - Y'All

So I finally got a good Garageband substitute for my laptop and with all my free time these next few months I'm gonna record a lot of music. I have two projects in the works that I'll start posting soon... the first one is a singles collection where I want to record five singles with two tracks each and then when I finish I'll arrange them into a compilation. I'll probably post a single a week. The other project is an instrumental EP with samples from cassette recordings my grandparents made when I was 3 and 4 years old. They got me wailing on acoustic guitar, piano, acapella, everything.

This song is an experiment I did with the shitty portable tape player I bought that warps the sound if you squeeze it hard enough. it came out pretty weird but it's cool.

Nobody Wave - Trance Vacation EP

1. Intermission (1:00)
2. Foreign Film (1:48)
3. For the North (3:46)
4. Trance Vacation (3:16)
5. Fast Asleep (3:10)
6. Lion in the Tide (2:14)

Alternate Art for the Trance Vacation EP

I'm just finishing the EP I've been working on for a few weeks now, so I wanted to post some alternate versions of the cover art that I didn't like as much.

Here's the first one I did:

this picture was taken in a ravine behind my high school, where my friends and I shot a WWII comedy called Take the Bunny for the third Swedish Meatball movie (check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYqkE6ezcg0).

and then another one:

and this photo was taken in Chicago at Millenium Park, probably the coolest public space that I've ever been to. Every so often these monolith fountains with projected faces of smiling people change and the faces open their mouths, spraying a huge jet of water onto the crowd (mostly kids in bathing suits).

Nobody Wave - Birthday Blackout (Demo)

I've never had a blog before. I wanted to start one so I could post songs online and give them more context. Maybe I'll start doing singles or EPs of new tracks and I'll post them on here with cover art and notes/lyrics. This blog is heavily inspired by Bradford Cox's Deerhunter/Atlas Sound blog, which is constantly updated with new demos and weird experiments. My songs will be under Nobody Wave, starting with 7 demos I recorded on Garageband in my dorm at UC San Diego this year.

I wrote this song in a few days between classes when I was getting really into No Age. Kinda reminds me of them, or a stripped-down Respira.
